i). World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on the 2nd of February to raise global awareness on the value of wetlands for humanity and the planet. The theme of World Wetlands Day 2019 is ‘Wetlands and Climate Change’.

ii). Ministry of External Affairs announced that Sanjiv Ranjan has been appointed as new Ambassador to the Republic of Colombia. Ranjan, who is the current Ambassador to Argentina, is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

iii). The Mizoram Government issued an order to ban the import of pigs and piglets because there is a possibility of an outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS). PRRS disease is also called as Swine Flu, the virus of this disease generally transmitted from pigs and affects both pigs and humankind.

iv). On the recommendation of Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha, the government constituted a committee under the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) to explore prepaid payments by state electricity distribution companies to power plants. The formed committee, consist of the chairman of distribution companies of Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, and representatives from Union power ministry and power associations to look into problems of delayed payments from distribution companies to power generators.

v). India captain Mithali Raj has become the first woman cricketer to play 200 ODIs, adding another achievement to her illustrious career. The 36-year-old is also the highest run-getter in ODIs with 6622 runs at an average of 51.33, including 7 hundred.

vi). Golfer Vani Kapoor has become the first Indian to grab Australian Ladies PGA Tour (LPGA) after securing 12th Rank tied with three others in the first-ever qualifying tournament at the Ballarat Golf Club in Australia.

i). World Wetlands Day ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் பிப்ரவரி 2 ஆம் தேதி மனிதகுலத்திற்கும் கிரகத்திற்கும் உள்ள நிலப்பகுதிகளின் மதிப்பு பற்றிய உலகளாவிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது. World Wetlands Day 2019 இன் தீம் ‘வெட்டும் மற்றும் காலநிலை மாற்றம்’ ஆகும்.

ii). கொலம்பியா குடியரசின் புதிய தூதுவராக சஞ்சீவ் ரஞ்சன் நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சு அறிவித்துள்ளது. அர்ஜென்டினாவின் தற்போதைய தூதுவராக இருக்கும் ரஞ்சன், விரைவில் நியமனம் பெறும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

iii). மிசோரம் அரசாங்கம் பன்றி மற்றும் பன்றி இறைச்சி இறக்குமதியை தடை செய்வதற்கான உத்தரவை வெளியிட்டது. ஏனெனில், திராட்சை இனப்பெருக்க மற்றும் சுவாச நோய்க்குறி (PRRS) வெடிப்பு சாத்தியம் உள்ளது. PRRS நோயானது பன்றி காய்ச்சல் என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது, இந்த நோய்க்கான வைரஸ் பொதுவாக பன்றிகளால் பரவுகிறது மற்றும் பன்றிகளையும் மனிதகுலத்தையும் பாதிக்கிறது.

v). இந்திய கேப்டன் மைதாலி ராஜ் 200 ஒருநாள் போட்டிகளில் விளையாடும் முதல் பெண் கிரிக்கெட் வீரர் ஆவார். 36 வயதான ஒருநாள் சர்வதேச போட்டிகளில் அதிகபட்சமாக 51.33 சராசரியாக 6622 ரன்கள், இதில் 7 சதங்களும் அடங்கும்.
